You leave the very lively town of Aix en Provence taking the scenic road of Vauvenargues just 2 km from the center you get to a narrow little road that climbs all the way to a private architect built house that is so light and transparent that it appears to be made out only of glass panels. The house and its surroundings blend in perfectly amongst the lush greenery of a 5000m2 terraced garden.
This modern architecture house benefits from an “eagle’s nest” position and is built alongside the hill it is situated on.

The house’s green setting of a large terraced garden planted with flowers and tall trees is always present for those inhabiting the house thanks to a clever system of sliding bay windows that makes you wonder whether the garden is inside the house or the house in the middle of the garden!

On the hillside opposite you can glimpse some beautiful properties hidden behind trees and on the right, just visible through the pines, lays the vibrant town of Aix.

The entrance to the house is on the side, close to a terrace that is situated alongside the kitchen. This is a wonderful area to have great breakfasts or to organize lavish aperitifs featuring the popular Provence rosé wine. The terrace is furnished with benches, teak chairs and small tables and parasols provide a welcome shade as soon as the sun is up.

Meals can be taken at a large round table situated in a corner of the terrace.

The main light colored wood front door leads into a large entrance hall facing a mezzanine and the T.V. room. There is a flat screen satellite T.V. and poufs for seating.
On the right a few steps lead to a well proportioned living room, cheerfully decorated with interesting and unusual paintings.  In the center, a sofa and armchairs are harmoniously displayed on either side of a fireplace. This living room opens out onto a terrace, on the west side of the house and also leads  into a dining room that extends all along the bay windows of the south facing terrace, to end close to a practical , compact but very well fitted  kitchen.  This dining area is furnished with a large light wood table seating numerous guests and the kitchen decorated in soft tones of beige and grey opens out onto the furnished terrace through sliding bay windows.
The same sliding bay windows can be found throughout the house, at each level. Most rooms open out onto south facing terraces or on the sides directly onto the garden for the bedrooms.

On the left hand side of the entrance a staircase along the inside garden leads to 2 bedrooms situated side by side and sharing the same shower room. Both have direct access to the garden through sliding glass doors.
Separate WC.
2 twin room (90cm beds) that on request, can be attached to make a king size bed.
The staircase carries on around the inside garden to the master suite, a comfortable and feminine room, that is privately situated at the end of the house.
Double bedroom, queen size bed, light and elegantly furnished, this room as well as its en suite bathroom open out directly onto the garden through sliding glass windows.
The bathroom has twin hand basins and separate W.C.

At the end of the terrace that runs along the glass walls of the front of the house a light green swimming pool, almost hidden by an olive tree and discreetly situated behind a fence, nestles
in its private space dedicated to relaxation and pleasure. A wall of greenery and flowers dominates the pool but also protects it, in a corner a silver leaf olive tree is reflected in the water and a wooden deck awaits you for sunbathing. A little further down a few chairs arranged close to a eucalyptus tree invite you to read or dream away…

Maison de Verre cannot be properly described or explained, it has to be lived …The soul of the house if totally made out of light, space and freedom.
It is a house half way between Provence’s dazzling blue sky and its generous land.

You are close to everywhere but away from everyone, even though the town is clearly there the dominant setting of the house makes it a totally peaceful refuge.

Maison de Verre, it’s like breathing and living under the open skies!
